Happy 4th of July!
Celebrating the Fourth of July has become one of my new favorite family traditions. Growing up, my family was never into setting off our own fireworks- but every year we would take our picnic blankets up to the park and watch the fireworks show while eating funnel cake. It was always so mesmerizing!
My husband, however, has always enjoyed purchasing fireworks from the tent up the street to set off at his own home. This is a tradition we have carried on with our own kids (I still just watch!!). Each year, we have family over to celebrate with cousins, food!, and fun.
I love seeing the joy and awe in my kids’ faces each year, getting to do bigger, louder, higher fireworks. They are memories that we will always cherish and events that they look forward to each year. Is your family team fireworks or team just watch??
Also- July is my birthday month! My twin sister and I will be almost 40 this year! It seems strange that I don’t feel any older than I did when I was graduating college so many years ago. But I am thankful for my family and my friends, and this new small business we have grown! I am thankful for all the support and kindness I have seen this summer! I look forward to new products and flavors soon.
This weekend will feature a red, white, and blue sourdough (or gluten free!) loaf with blueberries, strawberries, and white chocolate chips! Everyone stay safe this week! And Happy Independence Day, America!
It’s finally summer!
Summer is my favorite season! I love the sunny, warm days and the relaxing, lazy days. My kids and I are trying to explore our own backyard this summer by finding places we haven’t been in STL before! It has been so fun!
Something else we love during the summer is that my kids basically live outside. We have a portable gas fire pit (I know.. an actual one is on the honey-do-list!). We love to roast marshmallows and make smores!
On this sourdough journey, I have found that so many of my go to snacks or quick foods for my kids are filled with junk that is unnecessary. I have been learning to make a lot more things at home, some including my sourdough starter. Graham crackers have been my latest try! They were surprisingly easy, and I also included some fresh ground flour for added health benefits.
What I am struggling with is my homemade marshmallows! The batch I made tasted great, made with grass fed beef gelatin, but they were so sticky and never quite set up! So I will keep working on it. I’ve read that any candy making endeavor is all about temperature, so I’m sure that’s where I went wrong.
Eventually, I would like to add a homemade smores kit to my menu, so look forward to that!
What do you and your family like to do during the summer?
